Belmont Oaks History

The Belmont Invitational Oaks, held at Belmont Park, is a major Grade 1 horse race for three-year-old fillies. It covers a distance of 1¼ miles on turf.

The Belmont Oaks became a Grade I race in 1999. It was previously known as the Garden City Stakes from 2007 to 2013 when it was run in September at 1+18 miles. From 1996–2006, it was called the Garden City Breeders' Cup, and the Rare Perfume before that.

It guarantees the winner entry into the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf. The “Win and You're In” Breeders' Cup race.

Notable winners include Lady Eli in 2015 and Sistercharlie in 2018

This race is part of the Stars and Stripes Festival and offers a significant purse. It draws top competitors and has become a key event in summer racing, celebrated for its competitive field and historical significance.
