Metropolitan Handicap History

The Metropolitan Handicap, commonly known as the Met Mile, started in 1891 and is a premier horse racing event for three-year-olds and older.

Originally hosted at Morris Park, it moved to Belmont Park in 1904, though it has been held at Aqueduct during certain periods.

The race spans one mile on dirt and serves as a critical competition, often featuring top older horses and promising three-year-olds.

Noteworthy champions include Forego and Ghostzapper, and more recently, Frosted, who won in 2016.
